Welcome to the Parish Church of St Thomas of Canterbury, Thorverton, EX5 5NU

 A WARM WELCOME AWAITS YOU!

The largest and by far the oldest building in the parish, the Church overlooks the former Saxon 'burgh' and later market place now known as 'the Berry' or 'Bury'. The Church is dedicated to Thomas Becket, the 12th century archbishop who was murdered in his cathedral church.

 Thorverton Church Choir and Instrumental Group

We have a church choir with 20 or so members, some of whom robe in the traditional way. We enjoy singing music together from many ages and of many styles. This includes canticles, psalms and responses at services such as Evensong and Mattins, anthems in four parts and hymns at regular Sunday morning communion and family style services, as well as worship songs, spirituals, rounds and music from Taizé.

We sing at a morning service usually twice a month and occasionally at weddings and funerals when invited. Membership is open to everyone – there are no auditions. The choir usually practises on two Thursday evenings a month at Thorverton Church. We are always happy to welcome new singers. Just before Christmas, some 15 – 20 ‘extras’ join us for our Service of Lessons and Carols.

Our church instrumental group plays at most family services and some special services too. Again, there are no auditions. There are junior-aged members, teenagers and adults. We usually practise just before each service. New members are always welcome – all types of instruments are included.
