Cadbury Parish Church

cadsfw

Welcome to the Parish Church of St Michael & all Angels, Cadbury, EX5 5LA

Cadbury Church is in the centre of this rural hamlet whose population is about 100. The building, constructed from local stone, dates from the 15th century  - there is a medieval stained glass window and a Norman font – although there have been mid19th century additions and renovations. During the last 30 years restoration to the roof, tower and west window has been carried out. Now we are in the early stages of improving the heating and lighting and creating facilities for hospitality after services.

We have a recently formed choir which enjoys singing at special services (such as baptisms, or festivals). Bell ringing is also popular and great efforts are being made to fund raise for bell restoration, and the other improvements.

The church is the spiritual hub and there is a good positive relationship between it and the community. Recently lay involvement has increased and with it, more shared responsibility and active interest in pastoral care; more family orientated services and varied worship styles. We benefit from and appreciate the support derived from being part of the Netherexe community of churches and feel that this is an exciting time for Cadbury. Currently, we have 3 services a month including one Holy Communion. Our monthly lay led services are short, modest and meaningful with a gradual increase in the number of people actively involved.

Thorverton Church Choir and Instrumental Group

tccv2

We have a church choir with 20 or so members, some of whom robe in the traditional way. We enjoy singing music together from many ages and of many styles. This includes canticles, psalms and responses at services such as Evensong and Mattins, anthems in four parts and hymns at regular Sunday morning communion and family style services, as well as worship songs, spirituals, rounds and music from Taizé.

We sing at a morning service usually twice a month and occasionally at weddings and funerals when invited. Membership is open to everyone – there are no auditions. The choir usually practises on two Thursday evenings a month at Thorverton Church. We are always happy to welcome new singers. Just before Christmas, some 15 – 20 ‘extras’ join us for our Service of Lessons and Carols.

Our church instrumental group plays at most family services and some special services too. Again, there are no auditions. There are junior-aged members, teenagers and adults. We usually practise just before each service. New members are always welcome – all types of instruments are included.
