Devon Assn of Ringers 2012

The Devon Association of Ringers held a novice bell ringers competition at Rewe on Saturday 10th March. Many thanks to Roger Dunn for the photographs we have used in the slideshow. You can see more of Roger's photographs of the event on his Flickr page by clicking here.

Church flowers 2010

“The flower offered of itself
And eloquently spoke
Of Gods
In languages of rainbows
And secret silence...”
(Phillip Pulfrey)

During 2010 our volunteer photographer visited most of the churches of the Mission Community and amongst his photographs are images of the some of the flowers in four of our Churches. We are planning to put an up to date slideshow of our church flowers on the website in the near future.

With grateful thanks to each and every one of our volunteer flower arrangers.

Snow December 2010

Remember the winter of 2010?

Here are some images to remind you what it was like, with thanks to all those people who have contributed their photographs.

Welcome to our photo slideshows.

Use the menu on the right to select the album of photographs that you would like to see.

The photographs will appear on your screen as a Google Photos album, with the exception of the Medieval Hog Roast, which will link you to a Facebook page.

Please help us to develop this part of our website. If you would like to contribute your photographs of an event etc, or if you would like prints of any of the photographs taken by John Sanders, you can arrange that by contacting Margaret, our Administration Manager.

A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to these pages so far. Enjoy !!

Family History and parish records

We receive many enquiries from people who are researching the history of their families in this area. We do not hold copies of old parish records from the churches in the Netherexe Mission Community and in all cases we refer the enquirer to the Devon Records Office, which is where those old parish records are now held.

So, if you are seeking information about your ancestors, please use the information and Internet links below to help you identify and contact those organisations which should be able to help you further your research. Good luck!

Devon Records Office

The Devon Record Office exists to collect and preserve the historical records of Devon and to make them available to all who wish to study them. There are three record offices which share this task (Exeter, Barnstaple and Plymouth / West Devon).

Parish registers available online:

Almost 900,000 Devon parish records have become available online, making it easier to find your Devon ancestors. The UK family history website Findmypast has launched the Devon parish records in association with the Devon Family History Society. This is a subscription or pay for view service.

Some local parish registers are available free online:

Thorverton  - at Rootsweb (Baptisms 1813-1839, burials 1841-1880)

Rewe and Brampford Speke (burials) - at Devon Heritage

GENUKI is a genealogy web portal, run as a charitable trust. Its aim is "to serve as a "virtual reference library" of genealogical information that is of particular relevance to the UK & Ireland". A good place to start is at the Genuki page for Devon (then follow the link to the Church Records section)
