Church Friends Groups

A number of churches within our Mission Community have formed “Friends” groups.   It brings together those involved with the religious life of the church and non – churchgoers with the common purpose of preserving our community heritage by maintaining the historic church building and churchyard.  The groups organise events and activities to encourage and engender a feeling of community cohesion within their Parish.  They also organise churchyard tidy-ups and similar activities.

If you would like to be involved or find out about what is going on, please make contact with your local group.

Friends of Upton Pyne:

Friends of Upton Pyne exists to raise money for the care and maintenance of the village church and grounds, but we hope in future to expand to support a variety of village projects. We have a gardening team to maintain the church grounds. We organise a number of money-raising events such as jumble sales, concerts and appeals. We have a “Bring & Buy” stall at the monthly village coffee morning and have established a successful supper club which meets 5 times a year for an interesting talk and a meal. We will hold a Jane Austen Day in July 2013 and we will be marking the 100th anniversary of the First World War in 2014 by researching the names of the fallen on the village war memorial for an exhibition in the church. We aim to be a catalyst and a support for people to contribute however they wish to ensure the continuation of the church space as a presence for all, now and in the future
